Combined TC2 & TMI2 Traffic Controller & Traffic Management Implementer Course

Built Training & Education is proud to offer the combined RIISS00059 Traffic Controller Skill Set for High Volume Roads (TC2) and RIISS00061 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads (TMI2).
This course covers the skills and knowledge required for traffic control and traffic management implementation on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments, as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management. Category 2 environments include high-volume roads and other road environments classified as TTM Category 2 by the relevant road authority.
Duration
The program is designed to be delivered over two days, excluding post-course practical experience and final assessment requirements. Built Training & Education is able to support participants who need additional time.

Entry requirements
The following entry requirements apply to participants enrolling in the combined TC2/TMI2 – Category 2 Traffic Course:

Evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management types, including high-speed roads or high-volume roads, and including at least two of the following: pedestrian and cyclist controls; construction sites; lane closures; shoulder closures; night works; use of portable traffic control devices; or motorways/freeways.
Applicants must provide copies of their TC1 and TMI1 Statements of Attainment and supporting workplace evidence during enrolment. Evidence may include payslips, job dockets, Traffic Guidance Schemes, logbooks and/or a detailed letter from an employer confirming the applicant’s duties, hours and experience.
Built Training & Education also requires persons who undertake this course to be aged 18 years or over; provide original photo identification (driver licence or passport); and have suitable language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and comprehend learning materials and safely perform traffic management tasks.
Please note: Built Training & Education will review entry evidence before confirming enrolment. We will also engage with applicants to assess their language, literacy and numeracy skills. Basic learning support may be available. Applicants with more substantial support needs may be referred to an appropriate specialist provider before commencing the course.

RIISS00059 Traffic Controller Skill Set for High Volume Roads
This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for traffic control on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
Successful completion of the following unit of competency, inclusive of at least 20 hours of practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace:
The assessment comprises theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment is undertaken after the required practical experience has been gained. Practical experience must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads within six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.
This unit of competency from the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package meets industry requirements for individuals responsible for traffic control in temporary traffic management on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments, as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
RIISS00061 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads
This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for traffic management implementation on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
Successful completion of the following two units of competency, inclusive of practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace and completing at least three different types of setups:
• RIIBEF301D Run on-site operations
• RIIWHS304 Implement traffic management plans on high volume roads
The assessment comprises theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment is undertaken after the required practical experience has been gained. Practical experience must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads within six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.
These units of competency from the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package meet industry requirements for individuals responsible for traffic management implementation on a site, and for road workers under their direction, on Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
Built Training & Education will issue a Statement of Attainment after all course, workplace experience and final assessment requirements have been successfully completed. Eligible students will also receive an Austroads digital training card in accordance with applicable Austroads and Victorian requirements.
Delivery mode
Training is delivered face to face and is trainer-led. Written learning activities reinforce theoretical knowledge, and skills are practised in a live or simulated environment where learning is placed into context. Participants are provided with Austroads-approved reference material to assist them to develop their knowledge of the subject.
In addition to face-to-face training, students must complete the applicable practical experience requirements for each skill set in a temporary traffic management workplace.
Austroads Practical Logbook Completion and Final Assessment
The TC2 and TMI2 practical components must be completed under appropriate supervision on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 roads.
TC2 – Learners must complete at least 20 hours of practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge on declared Category 2 roads within six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.
TMI2 – Learners must complete at least three different types of setups based on Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes relevant to Category 2 working conditions, within six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.
The practical assessment is completed after the required workplace experience has been gained. Built Training & Education will advise students of the evidence and assessment arrangements that apply to their final assessment.
Students completing work placement will be required to have an appropriate workplace arrangement with a traffic management company before commencing placement, in accordance with Victorian work placement requirements.
Built Training & Education has relationships with traffic management companies and may be able to assist students to arrange practical placement, subject to availability and host employer requirements.
Students may also organise their own suitable workplace experience—for example, where they are employed by a traffic management company and have access to declared Category 2 roads and appropriate supervision.
Students will be required to provide their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during their placement, including:
• High-Vis workwear as per Austroads requirements
• Safety Boots
• Safety Glasses
• Gloves
• Hard Hat
• Two-way Radio
You should confirm the mandatory PPE requirements with your Traffic Management Company / placement supervisor before commencing your placement.
Dress and equipment requirements
Students are required to present to class in high-Vis workwear as per Austroads requirements, as well as Safety Boots
Students will require basic stationary and a notebook according to their own study preferences during training. Access to a computer which has an internet connection is recommended to assist students to undertake study and research in response to some assessment tasks.
Students will be required to bring portable electronic devices to classroom sessions such a small laptops or tablets.
Recognition of prior learning
Current employees of Victorian traffic management companies may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). RPL eligibility will depend on the currency, relevance and sufficiency of the evidence supplied. Please contact us for pricing and availability.
