Combined TC1 & TMI1 Traffic Control & Management Course
This course covers the functions required for traffic control and traffic management on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
Duration
The program is designed to be delivered over three days (21 hours), excluding your post course practical placement. Built Training & Education is able to support participants that need additional time.

The following pre-requisite applies for participants of the TC1/TMI1 – Category 1 Traffic Course:

Built Training & Education can provide additional learning support to students who require basic assistance. For students who have more fundamental support needs, Built Training & Education can refer these students to a specialist language, literacy and numeracy development provider who can assist students to improve their language, literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to suitably commence the course.

RIISS00058 Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for traffic control on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
Successful completion of the following three units of competency inclusive of at least 20 hours practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace:
The assessment for the units of competency comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical experience is gained. Practical experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.
These units of competency from the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package meet industry requirements for individuals responsible for traffic control in temporary traffic management on Temporary Traffic Category 1 as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for traffic management implementation on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
Successful completion of the following four units of competency inclusive of practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace, completing at least 3 different types of set ups:
The assessment for the units of competency comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical experience is gained. Practical experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.
These units of competency from the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package meet industry requirements for individuals responsible for traffic management implementation on a site and road workers under their direction on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.
Built Training & Education will issue a statement of attainment within 2 business days of the final assessment being completed, as well as a digital training card.
Delivery mode
Training is delivered face to face which is trainer led. Written learning activities will reinforce theoretical knowledge, and skills will be practiced in a live or simulated environment where learning will be placed into context. Participants will be provided with Austroads approved reference material to assist them to develop their knowledge of the subject.
In addition to face-to-face training, student are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours practical work placement.
Austroads Practical Logbook Completion and live assessment
Traffic Controller (TC1) and Traffic Management Implementer (TMI1) practical training component must be completed under direct supervision on a declared TTM Category 1 road as applicable.
TC1 - Learners are required to complete at least 20 hours of supervised practical training experience on category (1) one roads with a registered traffic management company, within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component (3-day course).
TMI1 - Learners are required to complete at least (3) three different types of setups based on Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS) relevant to their working conditions, within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component (3-day course).
You. will be required to complete a signed workplace agreement with a traffic management company, prior to commencing any work-based placement, as part of the Victorian Work Placement requirements.
Built Training & Education has relationships with Traffic Management Companies and can arrange practical placement for students.
Students are also able to organise their own work placement to complete the practical experience. (e.g. if a student is employed by a Traffic Management Company and has access to a suitable workplace to undertake work placement)
Students will be required to provide their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during their placement, including:
You should confirm the mandatory PPE requirements with your Traffic Management Company / placement supervisor before commencing your placement.
Dress and equipment requirements
Students are required to present to class in high-Vis workwear as per Austroads requirements, as well as Safety Boots
Students will require basic stationary and a notebook according to their own study preferences during training. Access to a computer which has an internet connection is recommended to assist students to undertake study and research in response to some assessment tasks.
Students will be required to bring portable electronic devices to classroom sessions such a small laptops or tablets.
